Temecula City Council Opposes SDG&E’s Golden Pacific Powerlink Project

The Temecula City Council has unanimously adopted a resolution opposing San Diego Gas & Electric’s (SDG&E) proposed Golden Pacific Powerlink project. This 145-mile extra-high-voltage power line is planned to traverse the city, raising significant concerns among residents and officials.

During a recent council meeting, community members voiced apprehensions about potential increases in wildfire risk, threats to property values, and hindrances to real estate development. Shalini Renfroe, co-founder of the advocacy group Save Temecula, emphasized the community’s commitment, stating, “Save Temecula is fighting this battle alongside the city to win, and together we will save the community.”

The council’s resolution aligns with the Riverside County Board of Supervisors’ earlier decision to formally oppose the project as currently proposed. Both bodies are urging SDG&E to reconsider the project’s route and to engage more thoroughly with the communities that would be affected.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed and participate in upcoming public forums to discuss the implications of the Golden Pacific Powerlink project and to voice their concerns.
